It is not the end, my friends!

You’ve heard the news that D-BOX is ending the commercialization of our haptic systems for the Home Theater segment, and you are wondering what will happen to your beloved seats and it’s content? Here’s some questions we received and answers we gave them.

Q: How long will D-BOX continue to provide support and repairs for home theater customers?

A: D-BOX will continue providing support and repairs for the next 7 years (until April 30, 2031) through a network of authorized resellers.

Q: What does it mean for the gaming segment?

A: There is no impact on our gaming/sim racing software, which we are continuing to develop. D-BOX will also pursue the commercialization of our G3 and G5 haptic systems.

Q: Will you stop releasing motion codes for Home Theater Users?

A: At this time, we intend to continue distribution haptic codes until at least April 2034. This decision is not impacting the availability of haptic codes for new content, either games or movies, which will continue to be made available on a regular basis as it is the case today.

Q: Will we still need to purchase a subscription for the motion/haptic codes, and has that cost been affected?

A: Yes, as we will continue to distribute haptic codes on a regular basis, there is no impact to D-BOX Connect and the HaptiSync subscription.

Q: Will we still see TV series encoded as a result?

A: As of now, we are focusing more on coding blockbuster movies but there is no plan to discontinue coding series

If you stop the subscription model and codes in 2034 for home users, will you allow us to download the previous codes movies files so we can still use the D-Box chairs for the legacy content?

We still need to evaluate the technical solution to do this. We will do our utmost to make the codes available for download.

I have been wanting a D box. Can I not buy them anymore?

Hello Cameron, all D-BOX products are still available for purchase, except Home Theater products. This will not affecte the sim racing products. We still need to evaluate the technical solution to make home theater content available. We will do our utmost to make the codes available for download.

So yes, it is the end for home theatre products…

“We still need to evaluate the technical solution to make home theater content available.”

This is technical speak for we haven’t worked out how we can make money from this going forward…

Perhaps change the business model to scale the subscription service? Get more butts in seats, that increases subscriptions. Break even on the tech, perhaps a make a bit in the black on the margins. If the world bought 100,000 more D-box chairs, D-Box would not need to hire a single additional coder. I certainly would not “enjoy” being charged more for the subscription service, but I would gladly pay more than we are now. Especially if it means we get access to new content in perpetuity.

Hello Martin,

Yes, we will continue to support and maintain the apps that allow operation of the D-BOX haptic systems (Windows, Android, iOS) until we cease distribution of the haptic codes.

For now, only the forum part of D-BOX is moving to Discord. The catalogue website is remaining as-is. However, with technology advancing as rapidly as it is, it’s impossible for us to predict our future communication methods-- all we can promise is that we’ll continue to be transparent and do our best to evolve with them.

We will continue sending out newsletter, on a monthly basis from now on.
